Prioritization Program

Milwaukee is replacing lead service lines across the city. Neighborhoods are prioritized based on how many lead pipes are in each neighborhood, child health data, and community needs.

Updates:
July 29, 2026 – Temporary Change to Fluoride Addition
Milwaukee Water Works is temporarily reducing the amount of fluoride added to drinking water because of supply chain issues affecting fluoride used in water treatment.
Milwaukee’s drinking water remains safe to drink and continues to meet water quality standards. Beginning Friday, July 31, 2026, fluoride levels will be reduced from approximately 0.6–0.7 milligrams per liter, or mg/L, to approximately 0.3 mg/L.

April 21, 2026 – City of Milwaukee Lead Service Line Replacement Construction in Full Swing for 2026

MILWAUKEE – Construction is underway across Milwaukee as Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) ramps up its 2026 Lead Service Line Replacement work. This effort removes sources of lead by replacing the service lines that connect homes to the water main, helping reduce potential exposure through drinking water. To date, MWW has replaced more than 13,000 lead service lines.

December 18, 2025 – Water Service Line Information

As required by the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, Milwaukee Water Works has sent updated notification letters to properties with confirmed lead service lines or unknown service line material. The letters include information about the health effects of lead and ways to reduce exposure in drinking water.
