Milwaukee Water Works Releases 2025 Water Quality Report

Rare behind-the-scenes access to Milwaukee’s drinking water testing lab

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) has released its Annual Water Quality Report, available at milwaukee.gov/AWQR, summarizing results from thousands of water quality tests conducted throughout the treatment plant and distribution system to ensure safe drinking water and compliance with state and federal standards.

The report covers water served to more than 920,000 residents in Milwaukee and 16 surrounding communities. It also includes monitoring results from our testing of more than 500 regulated and unregulated substances.

Milwaukee’s treatment process includes several steps, such as filtration, disinfection, and corrosion control. As part of corrosion control, a food-grade phosphorus compound is used to help reduce the potential for lead from pipes entering drinking water.

Media Availability

Media are invited to a rare, behind-the-scenes look inside the Linnwood Water Quality Laboratory, an active, restricted access facility where drinking water samples from the system are tested each day.

Media will see water quality testing in real time, observe how samples move through the lab, and capture visuals of the processes that help ensure safe drinking water across the system.

Due to limited space and active operations, media access will be divided into two 30-minute rotations.
