City of Milwaukee Weekly COVID-19 Update
MILWAUKEE – The disease burden in the City of Milwaukee this week declined to 126.6 new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over seven days and moved to the “high transmission” category for the first time since early August. The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests is at 5.8% and remains in the “moderate transmission” category.
Currently, 58.6% of City of Milwaukee adult residents ages 16 and older have completed their vaccination series and 63.6% have received at least one dose. $25 incentive gift cards are still available at the Milwaukee Health Department vaccination sites for any City of Milwaukee resident who receives their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
On November 4, the Northwest Health Center, Southside Health Center, and Menomonee Valley Drive-Thru began administering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Children who receive their COVID-19 vaccine at these sites will also be given a free ticket to the Milwaukee County Zoo while supplies last. All children under the age of 18 will require parent or guardian permission to receive the vaccine.
“The approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for our young children is a monumental step in protecting our community against the COVID-19 virus,” said Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “We strongly encourage all parents, grandparents, guardians, and caretakers to talk to the children in their lives about the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine.”
Beginning Monday, November 8, the Milwaukee Health Department will partner with Milwaukee Public Schools, Seton Catholic Schools, and Children’s Wisconsin to vaccinate Milwaukee-area children. These 22 community clinics will primarily focus on vaccinating the newly-eligible 5 to 11 year old demographic but will also offer first, second, and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for any eligible individual without an appointment.
The Milwaukee Health Department will host one or two vaccine clinics per day from November 8 through November 23. Beginning November 29, the same cycle of 22 schools will repeat to administer second doses. All second dose clinics will be finished on December 14. This schedule will allow ten days after the second dose prior to the Christmas holiday and two weeks before the New Year's holiday for children to reach their full immune response.
