Brush & Grass Should NOT be Placed in the Street

Placing brush in the street causes sewer catch basins to be clogged, which leads to ponding and flooding on neighborhood streets when it rains.

From April through November, branches from trees and bushes can be placed at the curb (not in the street!) in piles smaller than two (2) cubic yards for collection.

• Then call (414) 286-CITY (414-286-2489) to request a free Brush Pickup, or use Click4Action and select the “Brush Pickup Request, Less Than 2 Cubic Yards, April-November” request type to request a free brush pickup online.
• Two yards is a little larger than the distance between your fingertips when you spread your arms out wide.
• Visit Sanitation Services:Brush Collection page for brush collection information

Grass clippings and brush piles larger than two (2) cubic yards can be taken to one of the city’s Drop-Off Centers for free. Visit the Drop-Off Centers webpage for hours and information.

The city has two Drop-Off Centers – 3879 W Lincoln Av and 6660 N Industrial Rd – where residents can bring larger amounts of brush as well as other trash for disposal.

The exception to this rule is between mid-October and mid-November, when residents may place small amounts of soft plant matter on top of leaf piles in the street at the curb for pickup by city crews. Click here for leaf collection information.
