Analysis Shows 11th District has Low Crime Rate

An analysis of recent crime trends shows that when compared to the City of Milwaukee as a whole, our district has very low rates of crime. 

The table below, provided by the Milwaukee COMPASS Project, shows crime data from February 1, 2012 through February 1, 2013. It compares the number of offenses per 1000 residents in the 11th District to the City of Milwaukee. The numbers tell the story:

Ald. Borkowski believes the safety of the district is tied directly to the involvement of residents looking out for one another and because of the efforts of the men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department.

"MPD has worked diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the neighborhoods and businesses of the 11th District," he said. 

Definitions of Specific Crimes

Aggravated assault - An attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe injury. This type of assault usually is accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or injury.

Arson - Any willful burning or attempt to burn a building, motor vehicle, aircraft, or personal property of another.

Burglary - The unlawful entry of a structure (both residential and non-residential) with intent to commit a theft.

Criminal Damage to Property - Willfully injuring damaging, mutilating, defacing, destroying or substantially impairing the use of any property in which another has an interest without the consent of that person.

Homicide - The willful (non-negligent) killing of one human being by another.

Locked Vehicle Entry - Whoever intentionally enters the locked and enclosed portion or compartment of the vehicle of another without consent and with intent to steal.

Robbery - The taking or attempt to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or putting the victim in fear.

Sex Offense - Any sexual act directed against another person, forcibly and/or against their will; or, not forcibly or against the person's will where the victim is incapable of giving consent.

Theft - The unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession or constructive possession of another.

Vehicle theft - Theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
