City of Milwaukee Weekly COVID-19 Update

MILWAUKEE – Both the disease burden rate and percent positivity increased slightly this week. The burden rate of COVID-19 increased to 16.9 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over 7 days, up from 13.2 last week, and remains in the “moderate transmission” category. The percentage of positive tests increased to 2.0%, up from 1.3% last week, and remains in the “low transmission” category.

Vaccination rates continue to improve week over week. Currently, 53.2% of Milwaukee adults have received at least one dose of vaccine and 48.9% are fully vaccinated.

As announced on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Health Department, partnering with Jump at the Sun Consulting, HealthyMKE, Milwaukee County, the City of Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Fire Department, launched a door-to-door mobilization and vaccination effort on June 21.

“Our goal is to knock on almost every door in Milwaukee and offer residents vaccine, verified information, and answers to their questions and concerns,” said Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “This initiative is in line with our strategy to meet people where they are with the vaccine, remove any potential barriers to getting vaccinated, and ensure vaccination distribution equity by deliberately bringing the vaccine to communities disproportionally affected by COVID-19.”

In addition to COVID-19 vaccination, the Milwaukee Health Department and Milwaukee Fire Department will offer residents additional health and safety solutions with smoke detectors and faucet-mounted water filters available to be installed on-site.

While the door-to-door vaccination effort is the primary focus of the Milwaukee Health Department vaccination team, mobile vaccination clinics continue. On Sunday, July 11, vaccines will be available at Soul Food Sunday at Skybox Sports Bar, 2213 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from 1 to 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 14, the Milwaukee Bucks are generously donating two tickets to Game 4 of the NBA Finals to be raffled off to anyone who gets vaccinated on-site before the game. The vaccination clinic will be open in the Fiserv Forum Plaza, 1111 Vel R. Phillips Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m. The winner will be randomly selected at 7:45 p.m.

A full list of upcoming mobile vaccination clinics is attached and available at Milwaukee.gov/CovidVax.

The Crush COVID Crew hosted virtual information sessions last week for any Milwaukeeans interested in becoming an ambassador. Anyone interested in sharing verified information, addressing misconceptions, and promoting vaccine confidence can still join the program. A recording of the information session, along with additional messaging and resources can be found at Milwaukee.gov/CrushCOVIDtoolkit.
