City of Milwaukee Weekly COVID-19 Update
MILWAUKEE – This week, the COVID-19 burden rate for the City of Milwaukee is at 18.6 per 100,000 people. This is a slight decrease from 18.8 last week and remains in the “Moderate Transmission” category. The percent test positivity is 1.5%, also a slight decrease from 1.8% last week, and remains in the “low transmission” category. Currently, 51.5% of Milwaukee adults have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 45.5% are fully vaccinated.
“The gating metrics show that the prevalence of COVID-19 in our community continues to decline,” said Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “However, the virus is not fully eradicated, and the danger to those who are not yet vaccinated remains. The best way to protect yourself, your loved ones, and those who are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine is to get your vaccination as soon as possible.”
The Milwaukee Health Department continues to focus on bringing vaccination into the community, specifically targeting communities with lower vaccination rates. On Saturday, June 19, the vaccination team will be at the Walker’s Point Community Clinic, 130 West Bruce Street, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., as well as St. Roman’s School, 1810 West Bolivar Avenue, from 2 until 4 p.m.
On Sunday, vaccinations will be available in front of the Voces de la Frontera offices, 1027 South 5th Street, from 9 until 11 a.m. during the kick-off event for their Mass March to Madison. The Health Department is also partnering with the Milwaukee Community Kickball League to bring vaccines to an event at James Beckum Park, 900 West Brown Street, from 2 until 4 p.m. In addition to vaccines, there will be food, games, and music for the whole family.
A continuously updated list of all the mobile vaccination clinics, along with the times and locations for the Northwest and Southside Health Center Vaccination Clinics and frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, can be found at milwaukee.gov/CovidVax.
Finally, a reminder that City Hall and other City of Milwaukee buildings will reopen to the public on Monday, June 21. Visitors to City buildings, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear masks in these buildings. Similarly, city employees will also be masked in public areas.
