MILWAUKEE – August 31 marks International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), a global event dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives to drug-related overdoses and supporting friends, families, and survivors affected by this crisis. In recognition of this day, the City of Milwaukee Health Department, in partnership with Rise Drug Free MKE, Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Services, and various community organizations, will host a series of events aimed at raising awareness and promoting overdose prevention.
Ahead of IOAD, Milwaukee leaders will hold a press conference on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in the City Hall rotunda, 200 E. Wells Street. During the event, city officials and community leaders will announce the planned IOAD events, discuss the importance of overdose prevention programs in Milwaukee, and share personal stories related to overdose. A media kit with details of the August 31 events will be provided. Media is also invited to cover the events on August 31.
