Pictorial History of Milwaukee's Alderwomen
Throughout the history of the Milwaukee Common Council, 21 women have served in the role of Alderperson, with the first being Vel Phillips in 1956.
Marlene Johnson-Odom was the longest-serving woman elected to the Common Council; she served 6 terms (24 years).
Currently, six women serve on the Common Council which is the most women serving together in the history of the body. 10 women have also served as a committee chairperson over the years.
