Alderman Lamont Westmoreland's Biography

A lifelong Milwaukee resident, Alderman Lamont Westmoreland was elected to the Milwaukee Common Council in a special election on April 4, 2023, marking the beginning of his journey in public office. He was re-elected for a full term on April 2, 2024.

In addition to representing the 5th District, Alderman Westmoreland serves as Vice Chair of the Public Works Committee and is a member of the Judiciary and Legislation Committee. He also serves on the Public Safety and Health Committee, is a Commissioner on the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, and a VISIT Milwaukee Board Member.

Before entering public service, Alderman Westmoreland worked with Hunger Task Force to combat food insecurity across Milwaukee. He also built a strong background in business lending during his time at Byline Bank, a leading SBA lender, where he helped small businesses secure financing for acquisitions, expansions, new construction, and franchise startups — with loans ranging from $100,000 to $5 million. A former small business owner himself, he founded and operated a professional coating business serving the greater Milwaukee area.

A proud graduate of Wauwatosa East High School, Alderman Westmoreland pursued studies in Business Management. Beyond his professional and public service roles, he is a devoted family man, residing in Milwaukee’s 5th District with his wife, Samantha, and their two children, Julian and Farrah.

A passionate basketball fan, he proudly proclaims himself the biggest Milwaukee Bucks fan in the world and is a WIAA Master Level basketball official, now entering his 15th season.
