City Records also manages the City of Milwaukee mail room, which is the central location for incoming and outgoing USPS and interoffice mail. Working with United Mailing Services, City Records is able to obtain a reduced “presort” postal rate for most mailings sent by City departments, expediting the mail process and saving departments—and the taxpayers!—significant money on postage and delivery.
As of January 2019, the mailroom is keycard-access only from 8:00 AM-4:15 PM. For one-time access, inquire in the main City Records area with your City photo ID for a staffer to let you in. To receive access to the mailroom via your keycard, your supervisor should email [email protected] to put in an access request.
As of April 2021, the City mail room is again metering in-house! This will allow the City to maintain additional control over postage and mail handling, and will make detailed reports on mail activity available to mail contacts. Because in-house metering requires some extra time each day to process, please have mail brought down to the mail room by no later than 3:00 PM for same-day delivery. Mail received after 3:00 may not be prepared in time to be sent out that day, but will be prepared for the mail stream the following day.
