Milwaukee Safety Numbers Show Most Serious Crime Categories Continue Improve

More than four months into 2026, positive crime trends continue in Milwaukee.  So far this year, every category of serious crime, defined as Part 1 crime by the FBI, is down in our city with the exception of thefts which are up just two percent.

Homicides, rape, robbery aggravated assault human trafficking burglary, motor vehicle theft, and arson are all down when compared to this same time last year.

Two additional noteworthy crimes are also down markedly. Non-fatal shootings are 27% lower than they were at this time last year and carjacking is down 39% year-to-date.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson praised the work of Milwaukee Police officers and the engagement undertaken by the Department of Community Wellness and Safety.

“There are a lot of dedicated people working to make our city safer,” Mayor Johnson said. “People from across our community are joining in the work, and that produces benefits in every neighborhood of Milwaukee.”
