

Black History Recognition Ceremony 2024
The Black History Recognition Ceremony was established by Mayor Cavalier Johnson to honor city history makers during Black History Month. The ceremony pays tribute to those who have made significant contributions to the community and serves as a reminder of the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

When you think of citizenship, you also think of charity and how one pours into others. This mother-daughter duo displays both good citizenship and charitable contributions to our community. This mother and daughter is all about helping others during traumatic times and being a beacon of hope for others.
Ruben Hopkins
Our next honoree is responsible for helping these businesses obtain capital to sustain. He recently moved his headquarters with renovation plans to include a skating rink, bowling alley, laser tag and more. As the leader of The Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce, he also operates his own business to promote minority businesses. Please turn your attention to the video presentation.
Ed Hennings
Spending over 20 years in prison, Ed Hennings found a way to save $7500 to start multiple businesses upon his release, write books, and is a renowned motivational speaker. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, he has found a way to turn his life around and impact others. He is the meaning of good things can come from the inner city.
Dr. Rogers Onick
Dr. Rogers Onick is known as a lifelong educator. Prior to his retirement, he served as an educator and principal for over 40 years within Milwaukee Public Schools. He has literally touched the lives of thousands of students in MPS. As you will learn in the video presentation, he was an educator before he earned his degree. Even in retirement, he has found a way to empower teachers and educators all across our city!
