The South Howell Avenue reconstruction project is anticipated to be completed, with all traffic control removed, on Friday, July 19, 2019.
The project consists of reconstructing South Howell Avenue from East Grange to East Layton avenues with concrete pavement, new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway approaches. The roadway width will be widened from the two current 34-foot roadways separated by a 26-foot median, to two 39-foot roadways separated by a 22-foot median. Once completed, the roadway will accommodate a 5-foot bicycle lane in each direction.
The City of Milwaukee works to minimize impact for businesses, residents and the traveling public during construction. Traffic: Traffic on South Howell Avenue will be moved to one side of the street to provide a single lane of traffic moving in each direction.
Driveway Access: City staff and the contractor will work to minimize the amount of time any driveway access is restricted and will notify property owners 48 hours in advance of any driveway work.
Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian access will be maintained to abutting properties and businesses during construction with the least amount of inconvenience. Short-term disruptions will occur when sidewalks are being removed and rebuilt.
Bus Route: #55 and the GreenLine will remain in operation of their regular routes. Route #80 will detour to/from the Airport Spur via Grange Ave. to S. 6th St. Passengers may encounter delays.
Parking: On-street parking is not allowed.
Construction Hours: Work is allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Start Date: July 16, 2018 Anticipated Completion Date: December 2018 *All work is weather dependent and subject to change
