Awards 2019 Leading Fleets 

Government Fleet magazine and the American Public Works Association (APWA) have announced that the City of Milwaukee Fleet Services Section is one of the Leading Fleets in 2019 for the sixth consecutive year. The awards program recognizes 50 Leading Fleets representing the best in the industry that are performing at high levels in fleet leadership, competitiveness and efficiency. Fleet Services has been recognized in the Leading Fleets program every year since 2014; consistently ranking within the top 30.

2018 APWA - American Public Works Association

The Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award was presented to the City of Milwaukee, Department of Public Works on My 7, 2018.

MEET THE FLEET SERVICES TEAM

A photo of the Fleet GroupMeet the teams that keep things running smoothly. Fleet Services consists of Light Repairs, Heavy Repairs, Stockroom and Fleet Dispatch.

The Fleet Dispatch team process around 300 calls per day and schedules approximately 400 operators, support staff and laborers for Environmental Services, Street Maintenance and Sewer Maintenance.

Fleet Repairs works hard every day for DPW and the Milwaukee Police Department. Great TEAMWORK!

The Green Fleet logo As global non-renewable energy stocks dwindle and fuel prices increase, Fleet Services continually works to improve air quality, promoting environmental sustainability, which exercising sound financial management. Fleet Services is involved in many facets of "Greening the Fleet" to include: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Electric Vehicles (EV), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or "propane", reducing greenhouse gas in the process.

Fleet Services has been involved in "alternative fuel" charged vehicles as far back as 1980, and made a second push into CNG and propane in 1992. We have approximately 4,500 pieces of fleet equipment including 2,600 motorized units and expanding CNG powered fleet. By 2010, we have powered heavy duty refuse trucks to now include: 60 CNG refuse trucks, 3 cars and 5 vans. The City of Milwaukee has two CNG refueling stations. These stations are located at our Lincoln Yard (3921 West Lincoln) and at our Ruby Yard (3100 West Congress) to dispense CNG to all consumers, public and private, through credit card sales.

FEATURED VEHICLES

The Patch Truck blows out the pot hole, mixes an emulsion in the truck to make tar, fills the pot hole then tops it off with stones.  The patch hardens as the water evaporates out of the emulsion.  You can drive on it right away.

The Sign Truck is a sign maintenance shop on wheels; equipped with an 11 foot long utility body and custom features for installing, repairing and removing sign posts from the ground. There is ample storage onboard for new signposts; and all hardware for installing the signs used throughout the City of Milwaukee. This truck also features a 120 volt, 3000 watt electric power inverter for any electric hand tools needed to repair and maintain the signs.
