WEST HAMPTON AVENUE BRIDGE OVER LINCOLN CREEK REHABILITATION PROJECT
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE-DECEMBER
The West Hampton Avenue bridge rehabilitation project will conclude and the roadway will be fully open to traffic on Friday, December 20th. In the spring, work will resume with landscaping, placing permanent pavement markings, and painting the bridge girders and parapets. We will utilize single lane closures as needed to complete the work. (12/18)
NOVEMBER
- Starting November 25th, crews will begin to form the bridge median and continue electrical work for new street lighting. During the week of December 2nd, crews will pour the concrete for the bridge median and roadway approaches, weather permitting. We anticipate the roadway to be fully open in mid-December, weather permitting. (11/22)
- The concrete bridge deck was poured on October 25th and storm sewer relay work has been ongoing. Next week, the contractor will install the formwork for the parapet, pour the roadway approach on the west side of the bridge, and begin work on the median. We anticipate working on the roadway approach on the east side of the bridge and installing the bridge railing during the week of November 11th. All work is weather dependent. (11/1)
OCTOBER
The contractor will add the rebar for the bridge deck in preparation of the concrete deck pour on October 25th, weather permitting. While the concrete deck is curing, crews will set up the formwork for the sidewalk and pour the roadway approach on the west side of the bridge. During the week of November 4th, the contractor will install the formwork for the parapet. (10/18)
SEPTEMBER
Stage 2 of construction for the West Hampton Avenue Bridge over the Lincoln Creek began in early September. The contractor has completed removing the bridge deck and the abutment back wall. Currently, crews are replacing the bridge bearings and will begin formwork for the back walls and wing walls. We anticipate pouring the concrete for the bridge deck in mid-October. Sewer relay work will start the week of September 30th on West Lincoln Creek Drive from West Hampton to West Armitage avenues. As a reminder, on-street parking will be restricted on this segment of West Lincoln Creek Drive for the sewer work. (9/26)
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Department of Public Works will conduct a rehabilitation project of the West Hampton Avenue Bridge over Lincoln Creek, located between North 60th Street and West Lincoln Creek Drive. The work consists of replacing the bridge deck, sidewalk and roadway approach, painting the steel girders, and installing new bridge railings, underground conduit and street lights. In addition, upgrades will be made to the sanitary relay and storm sewers on West Lincoln Creek Drive from West Hampton to West Armitage avenues.
A modification to the median at the intersection of Lincoln Creek Drive will include a new pedestrian crosswalk on Hampton Avenue and will limit left hand turns from Lincoln Creek Drive to enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists and improve the overall operation of the roadway.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
To minimize how construction will impact residents, businesses, and the traveling public, the project will be split into two stages:
Stage 1: The north side of West Hampton Avenue Bridge will be closed for construction. One lane of traffic in each direction will be provided on the south side of the street. Pedestrian access shall be maintained on the south side of the bridge and abutting properties with the least amount of inconvenience.
Stage 2: The south side of West Hampton Avenue Bridge will be closed for construction. One lane of traffic in each direction will be provided on the north side of the street. Motorists will not be allowed to turn from Hampton Avenue onto Lincoln Creek Drive or vice versa. Pedestrian access shall be maintained on the north side of the bridge and abutting properties with the least amount of inconvenience.
Driveway Access: City staff and the contractor will work to minimize the amount of time any driveway access is restricted and will notify property owners 48 hours in advance of any driveway work.
Bus Route: #12 will maintain its regular route, schedule, and transfer points (#76 & Blueline) within the work zone. Unanticipated stop alterations will be signed to redirect passengers as needed.
Parking: On-street parking is not allowed on Hampton Avenue at any time during the project. During Stage 2, on-street parking will be restricted on West Lincoln Creek Drive from West Hampton to West Armitage avenues for sewer work.
Construction Hours: Work is allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
