Milwaukee Bike/Walk Sign Plan

The City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County Parks partnered to develop Walk/Bike Sign Manuals. These manuals provide a protocol and design for a seamless, coordinated wayfinding system that can be implemented across the City's bicycle network and the County's Oak Leaf Trail system. For clarity and simplicity, two "twin" manuals were developed as part of this project.

Surveys - The project team conducted an online and in-person intercept survey that asked respondents which sign type (termed "sign family") that they preferred out of two possibilities. In-person intercept surveys were collected at two different locations: Kosciuszko Park, on the city's south side, and Gordon Park, on the city's north side. The project team surveyed 124 people in-person and over 1,900 people took the online survey. The memos below summarize the findings from these surveys.
