Program Details

After three pilot studies with over 1.5 million scooter trips, the City of Milwaukee launched a permanent scooter program in May 2024.

Operators were selected through a Request for Proposals. The two selected operators entered into two-year contracts with the City of Milwaukee to operate dockless scooters. Operators must adhere to the program's Terms & Conditions and the following Zone Map.

In addition to the requirements about deploying scooters across Zones 1-6, operators are required to offer an automatic 40% discount for all trips starting in Zones 4 and 5. Spin also offers an automatic 40% discount in Zone 3.

Can you ride scooters on sidewalks?

No. Scooters are not allowed to ride on sidewalks or on the Riverwalk. Scooters are allowed to ride on streets, bike lanes, and trails.

How do you properly park a scooter?

Scooters may be parked in the street's parking lane or on the sidewalk. At least 4 feet of space must remain clear to allow for an accessible path for pedestrians. Scooters should be parked upright and should not block driveways, entryways, curb ramps, transit stops, parklets, loading zones, accessible parking spaces, or parking meters.

Milwaukee has no age requirements to ride scooters. Operators are allowed to set their own minimum age requirements. Lime and Spin both require riders be at least 18 years of age.

Scooters cost $1 to unlock. Riders are then charged $0.40 per minute until the trip ends.

An automatic 40% discount ($0.60 to unlock, $0.24 per minute) is applied to all trips starting in program Zones 4 and 5. Spin also offers an automatic 40% discount for all trips starting in Zone 3. Check out the Zone Map and the "Program Details" tab for more information.

  What are scooter corrals?

Scooter corrals are areas marked specifically for scooter parking by paint and posts, typically found close to intersections in the street's parking lane. Scooter corrals are intended to provide convenient, visible places to park scooters. Riders are encouraged but not required to park scooters in corrals.
