Winning bid marks important step in demolition of former Northridge Mall

MILWAUKEE - Earlier today, the City of Milwaukee opened public bids for the asbestos abatement and demolition of the former Northridge Mall. Eight companies submitted bids for this project. The City reviewed bid submittals and Veit is the apparent low bidder at $10,682,306.85. Headquartered in Rogers, Minn., Veit opened a regional office in New Berlin, Wis., in 2022. The firm has been involved with several demolition projects throughout the City and region.

The City will validate the bid and then work with Veit over the coming weeks to execute a contract. This contract will include full asbestos abatement, demolition of the remaining buildings, and site restoration work. After a contract is signed, the City and Veit will host a public meeting to share details on the project, including details about the start date, timing, and the sequence of work.

In December 2023, Gov. Tony Evers committed $15 million in federal America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to redevelop the former Northridge Mall. The majority of this funding will pay for the asbestos abatement and demolition, while the remaining amount will cover contingency, utility re-alignment work, fencing, environmental assessment, civil engineering, and on-going site security.

The Department of City Development will provide project updates on its Granville Station Redevelopment website: milwaukee.gov/GranvilleStation
