  • Code Enforcement Intern 1
    • Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS)
      • This is a full-time, two-year paid position with benefits that combines classroom training with on-the-job experience to prepare individuals for Code Enforcement Inspector positions. The Intern Program Curriculum, described under the minimum requirements below, consists of approximately 31 college credits in English, social sciences, math, computers, architecture, and code enforcement.

  • College Intern
    • Various Departments
      • The College Intern will work between 10- 20 hours per week, while enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Engineering Intern
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Infrastructure Traffic and Transportation
      • The Engineering Intern position is a fixed-term role within the City of Milwaukee. Engineering Interns may work during the summer and/or year-round and are eligible to apply for transfer/promotional opportunities before completion of the internship.
  • Graduate Intern
    • Various Departments
      • Graduate Interns work approximately 19 hours per week and cannot exceed 1,019 hours per year while enrolled in a graduate program from an accredited college or university.
  • Library Circulation Aide
    • Milwaukee Public Library (MPL)
      • Library Circulation Aides are employed up to 20 hours per week.
  • Library Teen Outreach Intern
    • Milwaukee Public Library (MPL)
      • Part-time employees may work a maximum of 1019 hours per year. The number of hours worked will depend on the needs of the Milwaukee Public Library.
  • Municipal Services Electrician Apprentice
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Infrastructure Electrical Services
      • The apprenticeship program requires the successful completion of electrical apprenticeship classes (720 hours of classroom training) at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). Satisfactory progress must be maintained in all aspects of the program during the entire four-year apprenticeship period. To remain in the program, Municipal Services Electrician Apprentices must complete the required coursework at MATC within timeframes established by the Department of Public Works and must at least receive a grade of "C" for each course.
  • Transportation Operations Assistant
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Infrastructure Traffic
      • This is a part-time internship position (fixed-term appointment), and the maximum number of hours worked per year is 1,019.
  • Urban Forestry Arborist Apprentice
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Operations Forestry
      • The Urban Forestry Arborist Apprenticeship is a three-and-a-half-year program that includes 5,400 hours of on-the-job learning and 440 hours of paid instruction encompassing all aspects of tree care, from planting and pruning to managing diseases and insects. This comprehensive program prepares Arborist Apprentices for promotion to Urban Forestry Specialist (Journey Worker Arborists).
  • Urban Forestry Intern
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Operations Forestry
      • Are you currently enrolled in a college-level program related to urban forestry? Are you interested in learning more about urban forestry and tree climbing systems? Consider applying for this unique internship opportunity (Summer 2026) to participate in the City of Milwaukee’s urban greening activities!
  • Youth Apprentice
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Operations Forestry | Department of Public Works (DPW) - Milwaukee Water Works (MWW)
      • The Department of Public Works-Milwaukee Water Works (DPW-MWW) encourages high school juniors who have fully completed their sophomore year at the time of application period close to apply for this exciting youth apprenticeship program, which may lead to full-time employment as an Industrial Machine Repair Mechanic.
  • Youth Fleet Apprentice
    • Department of Public Works (DPW) - Operations | Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD)
      • A high school sophomore or junior interested in an urban forestry career? Consider applying for this exciting apprenticeship opportunity to participate in the City of Milwaukee’s urban greening activities! The apprenticeship begins in the summer of 2026, and is for students who will be high school juniors or seniors in the Fall of 2026. If you enjoy being outdoors, performing physical activities, being part of a welcoming team, and making a difference every day, this may be the opportunity for you!  Selected students will enroll in the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Youth Apprenticeship Program (DWD-YAP) through their school-appointed consortium.
  • Youth Arborist Apprentice

  • Beach Water Monitoring Technician
    • Milwaukee Health Department
      • Work from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (15 hours per week).
  • Management Trainee
    • Various Departments
      • The Management Trainee Program offers recent college graduates an opportunity to pursue a career in public service through a one-year appointment performing analytical and communications functions.
