-All concrete pavement in the roadway is on track to be completed by November 30th, weather permitting

CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS:
-On-street parking is restricted
-North 28th St. from Michigan St. to Wisconsin Ave. is closed to vehicular traffic
-Short-term disruptions will occur when sidewalks and driveway approaches are removed and rebuilt
-All work is weather dependent and subject to change

PROJECT OVERVIEW

West Wisconsin Avenue was expanded to 4 lanes in 1974 to meet traffic demand, and only minor maintenance work has occurred since the expansion. This project consists of reconstructing the 4-lane, divided principal arterial with concrete pavement. Currently, West Wisconsin Avenue between North 20th and North 30th streets has an average daily traffic count of 15,600 vehicles.

PROJECT FEATURES
-Full reconstruction of the concrete pavement; new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveway approaches
-Storm sewer upgrades
-New traffic signals and street lighting
-More than 35 trees planted
-3 new landscaped signature beds

PROJECT BENEFITS
-Enhances safety for pedestrians and motorists
-Improves the overall operation and roadway

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION

The City of Milwaukee works to minimize impact for businesses, residents and the traveling public during construction.

Traffic: Traffic on Wisconsin Avenue will be moved to one side of the street to provide a single lane of traffic moving in each direction. Motorists will not be allowed to turn onto, or from, Wisconsin Avenue through the work zone.

  • Stage 1: The south side of Wisconsin Avenue from North 20th to North 38th streets will be closed for construction. Motorists will travel on the north side of the street.
    • Motorists may still travel on the Wisconsin Avenue Viaduct. However, there is no access to Wisconsin Avenue at the intersection of Bluemound Road and North 38th Street (coming up from the Valley Park neighborhood).
  • Stage 2: The north side of Wisconsin Avenue from North 20th to North 38th streets will be closed for construction. Motorists will travel on the south side of the street.

-North 27th Street will remain open to traffic.

-North 35th Street will remain open to traffic with one through lane of traffic in each direction. Large trucks will not be allowed to make turns onto, or from, Wisconsin Avenue.

-North 32nd and North 34th streets will temporarily allow two-way traffic between Wells Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Parking: Parking along West Wisconsin Avenue will temporarily be removed during construction.

Driveway Access: City staff and the contractor will work to minimize the amount of time any driveway access is restricted and will notify property owners 48 hours in advance of any driveway work.

Pedestrian Access: Short-term disruptions will occur when sidewalk is being removed and rebuilt. Temporary pedestrian accommodations will be provided and the contractor will work with property owners to minimize impact.

Bus Routes: #30, 30x and Gold Line will remain in operation.
-Eastbound stop at 31st St. will no longer be in service. Passengers can board at the 32nd St. stop in both directions.
-Eastbound stop at 21st St. will not be in service. Westbound stop at 21st St. will be maintained.
-24th St. bus stop will not be in service in both directions during construction.
