Beginning November 7th, the contractor will start the mainline paving operation from South 1st Street and work south toward East Ohio Avenue, weather permitting. Please anticipate short-term disruptions at intersections and driveway access, on the east side of the street, while the paving operation progresses through the project. The concrete work will take place over the next several weeks. We anticipate the underground work including electrical conduits, CUC and manhole replacements to be finished within the next two weeks. Work to install the street light poles will continue throughout the month of November and into December. (11/6)

Crews are continuing to replace storm sewer inlets, install underground conduit and set street light poles at various locations throughout the project. Utility contractors are working to relocate their facilities as well. We anticipate re-opening South Chase Avenue from South 4th Street to West Lincoln Avenue to traffic in two to three weeks. At that time, traffic on West Lincoln Avenue will be switched to the south side of the street while crews are working on the northern half of West Lincoln Ave. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on West Lincoln Avenue.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The reconstruction project of South Chase Avenue from West Lincoln Avenue to East Ohio Avenue will consist of removing the deteriorated pavement and replacing it with new concrete pavement, curbs & gutters, and driveway approaches. All sidewalk and pedestrian curb ramps will be rebuilt. New street lighting and traffic signals will be installed and storm inlets and lateral connections will be upgraded throughout the project. New traffic signals will also be installed in the intersections of West Lincoln Avenue and South 27th Street and West Lincoln Avenue and South 43rd Street.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
To minimize how construction will impact residents, businesses, and the traveling public, the project will be split into two major stages:
Stage 1: The west side of the roadway (southbound lanes) will be closed for construction. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the east side (northbound lanes) of the roadway.
Stage 2: The east side of the roadway (northbound lanes) will be closed for construction. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the newly completed roadway on the west side.
Driveway Access: City staff and the contractor will work to minimize the amount of time any driveway access is restricted.
Pedestrian Access: Pedestrian Access will be maintained to abutting properties during construction with the least amount of inconvenience. Short-term disruptions will occur when sidewalks are being removed and rebuilt.
Bus Route: #51 and #53 will maintain their regular route and schedule within the work zone. Unanticipated stop alterations will be signed to redirect passengers as needed.
#54 weekday UMOS trips will have a detour route during both stages of construction. Instead of South 1st Street to South Chase Avenue, buses will travel on Becher Street to South 6th Street and will take West Rosedale Avenue to UMOS.
Parking: On-street parking is not allowed during construction. After the project is completed, parking on both sides of the street will be restored, except the segment between East Oklahoma Avenue and South 4th Street where parking will be permanently removed.
Construction Hours: Work is allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
