Project Summary

Clybourn Street Bridge - Over the Milwaukee River
The rehabilitation of the Clybourn Street Lift Bridge over the Milwaukee River, started on July 26, 2010, has been completed and the bridge was opened to traffic on June 15, 2011.
The bridge project opened on schedule and within the project budget.
The movable bridge was built in 1968 and, due to harsh river environments and deterioration of steel decking and support components, required major rehabilitation work to maintain safe and reliable service. The rehabilitation work included replacement of structural steel components, decking, walkways, railings, mechanical lifting components, upgrade of operating systems, repairs of concrete piers, sandblasting and painting, and associated approach work and street paving.
This project was accelerated to ensure completion before the start of the summer festival season and before major work commences later this year on the Wisconsin Avenue and Juneau Avenue bridges.
