The Brown Street Bridge reconstruction project was completed and open to traffic on December 12, 2018.
The West Brown Street Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railroad located between North 30th and North 31st streets was built in 1934. The 84-year-old bridge will be removed and completely reconstructed with bridge parapets complementing the adjacent buildings and neighborhood. The existing roadway is 36 feet wide and will remain 36 feet wide. Approximately 15-20 feet of the roadway approaching the bridge will be reconstructed with concrete pavement; curbs, gutters, and sidewalks will be replaced where necessary. The bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project.
The City of Milwaukee works to minimize impact for businesses, residents and the traveling public during construction.
Traffic: Alternate routes for east and westbound traffic are West North Avenue and West Lisbon Avenue.
Parking: On-street parking will not be allowed on West Brown Street between North 30th and North 31st streets.
Driveway Access: Local traffic access will be maintained to abutting properties. City staff and the contractor will work to minimize the amount of time any driveway access is restricted, and will notify the property owners 48 hours in advance of any driveway work.
Pedestrian Access: Although no pedestrians will be allowed to travel over the bridge during construction, pedestrians will be able to travel to those properties and businesses that abut the bridge during construction, with the least amount of inconvenience.
Construction Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Start Date: April 23, 2018 Anticipated Completion: Fall 2018 *All work is weather dependent and subject to change
