City of Milwaukee Weekly COVID-19 Update
MILWAUKEE – The disease burden in the City of Milwaukee this week is 331.4 new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over seven days and remains in the “extreme transmission” category. The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests is at 10.5% and moved into the “high transmission” category.
“As we learn more about how the Omicron variant spreads and continue to experience the effects of the Delta variant within our community, it’s imperative that everyone gets their COVID-19 vaccine and booster when eligible,” said Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “The vaccine is free, safe, readily available, and highly effective in protecting you and those around you from COVID-19.”
Recent data shows that compared to fully vaccinated individuals, those who are unvaccinated have 5.8 times the risk of testing positive for COVID-19 and 14 times the risk of dying from COVID-19. Currently, 60.2% of Milwaukee adults are fully vaccinated, 65.1% have received at least one dose, and 71,039 booster doses have been administered to eligible individuals 18 years of age and older.
Beginning today, the Milwaukee Health Department vaccination sites began administering booster doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to 16- and 17-year-olds at least six months after having received their second dose, in accordance with the CDC’s new recommendation. Booster doses for everyone 16 years of age and older are available without an appointment at the Northwest Health Center, Southside Health Center, and Menomonee Valley Site.
The Milwaukee Public School and Seton Catholic School vaccination clinics will wrap up next week. So far, 908 doses of vaccine have been administered during the second round of school vaccination clinics, which began on Monday, November 29. The vaccination team will be at Bethune Academy and St. Catherine on Monday, December 13 and at LaFollette Public School and Benjamin Franklin Elementary on Tuesday, December 14. The full vaccination schedule is at Milwaukee.gov/COVIDvax.
