City of Milwaukee Weekly COVID-19 Update

MILWAUKEE – The disease burden in the City of Milwaukee this week decreased slightly to 233.8 new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over seven days and remains in the “extreme transmission” category. The percentage of positive COVID-19 test results increased to 13.4% and moved into the “extreme transmission” category. Additionally, based on U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, Milwaukee County moved into the High COVID-19 Community Level.

Currently, 64.8% of city of Milwaukee adults 16 years and older are fully vaccinated, and 49% of fully vaccinated individuals have received a booster dose. Of children ages 5 to 11, 20.3% have completed their pediatric COVID-19 vaccine series and 24.6% have received at least one dose.

“As we head into the warm, summer months, one layer of protection you can implement is incorporating fresh air into your activities,” said Milwaukee Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “Take your gatherings outdoors, open windows, and circulate clean, fresh air into your spaces to reduce the transmission rate of COVID-19.”

Milwaukee Pridefest is this weekend, which kicks off festival season in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Health Department will be in the Health and Wellness Area of Pridefest (near the U.S. Cellular Stage) all weekend with sexual health resources, fun swag items, free contraceptives, Narcan, and fentanyl strips available.

Those who chose to attend any of Milwaukee’s festivals this summer can take steps to celebrate safely. Taking a COVID-19 test before attending to prevent spreading the virus to others, staying home if you are sick or have come in contact with someone positive for COVID-19, leaving space between you and others at the festival, prioritizing staying up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccines, and wearing a mask when in crowded areas can help protect you and everyone around you.
