Inflation Reduction Act for Residential Energy Efficiency & Solar 

Federal dollars available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) can help residents with energy efficiency and solar improvements on their homes. Get started with the Rewiring America IRA Savings Calculator.

Direct Rebates: Two Home Energy Rebate Programs are still being finalized. More details will be available in late 2023 with programs launching in early 2024. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission selected Focus on Energy as the entity to implement IRA programs once funding is available. 

Tax Credits: Two residential tax credits incentivize household electrification by lowering the total cost of qualified upgrades.

25C Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credit

  • Covers purchase and installation costs for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and panel upgrades and purchase costs for other listed upgrades.

Home Energy Performance-Based Whole-House (HOMES) Rebate Program*

  • Households can receive tiered rebate amounts based on the verifiable energy use reductions on modeled energy efficient retrofits.

25D Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit

  • Covers purchase and installation costs.

  • Available for rooftop solar, battery storage, and geothermal heating.

 

High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA)*

  • Provides point-of-sale consumer discounts on specific high efficiency electric improvements and appliances for low- or moderate-income households.

  • Combine these rebates with tax credits for additional savings (ex. make electrical upgrades for solar.
