Ongoing Lead Hazard Investigations with MPS
![]()
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has identified hazardous levels of lead contamination in multiple Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) buildings.
These findings, uncovered through separate case investigations by our Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP), in consultation with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), confirm lead hazards inside MPS buildings that exceed state safety standards. As the city’s public health authority, MHD is committed to providing timely updates and working toward long-term solutions to reduce lead exposure risks in school buildings.
Community screening clinics
The Milwaukee Health Department has partnered with community organizations to offer free lead screenings for children ages 9 months to 10 years—no insurance needed. Find a clinic near you that fits your schedule.
School records and public documents
The Milwaukee Health Department has created a centralized library of public documents on lead hazard investigations in Milwaukee Public Schools. This includes inspection reports, clearance letters, closure notices, remediation updates, and the MPS Lead Action Plan. This library is regularly updated as new information becomes available.
