City of Milwaukee Health Department Reopens Keenan Health Center STI Clinic
Media Availability Scheduled for Thursday, February 19

MILWAUKEE – The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is excited to announce its Sexual and Reproductive Health (STI) Clinic at the Keenan Health Center officially reopened to the public this week, following several months of intensive recruitment and staffing stabilization efforts.

The clinic was temporarily closed in November due to staffing shortages. Since that time, MHD has onboarded new clinical staff, continued active recruitment for remaining positions, and worked closely with the City’s Department of Employee Relations to strengthen long-term staffing capacity and clinic operations.

“Temporarily closing the clinic was a difficult, but necessary step to protect patient and staff wellbeing and ensure long-term stability,” said Commissioner of Health Mike Totoraitis, PhD. “Although this work took time, it was essential to reopening safely and sustainably. I am confident that we have the right team in place to support both patients and staff. I am proud of the work that’s gone into bringing a stronger clinic back to the community.”

“Access to sexual and reproductive health care is a critical part of a healthy city,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “I want to thank MHD for doing the hard work to rebuild staffing at Keenan and ensure this clinic can reopen stronger and better positioned to serve Milwaukee residents.”

The Keenan STI Clinic provides testing, treatment, and prevention services and plays a key role in the city’s broader public health system.

To mark the reopening, MHD will host media availability at the Keenan Health Center tomorrow.
