Caring for your family while you are at work can often be a challenge. Whether it's day care, after-school care, caring for a child who is home ill, the responsibility for aging parents or care for your pet, sometimes you need additional support. The City of Milwaukee knows that life can be unpredictable, so to help alleviate life’s unexpected challenges, we have added a new benefit to better support work-life balance for our employees.
The City of Milwaukee is launching Care@Work which is available at no cost to all benefits-eligible employees. Care@Work is a free membership through care.com to provide support finding family care services that can help caregivers for your whole family, including your child, parents/grandparents, pet and/or home.
Care.com Membership
Care.com is the world’s largest network for finding and managing care. With unlimited access to a Care.com Membership, employees can find regular, part-time, or ongoing care including:
- Nannies and babysitters
- Senior caregivers
- Special needs caregivers
- Housekeepers
- Personal assistants
- Transportation assistance
- Pet sitters and groomers
- Childcare centers
- Errand runners

Members of Care.com can also access resources in the Care.com Community, including articles, pay rate calculators, and step-by-step guides for child care, adult care, pet care, and more.
Care.com Membership User Experience
Care.com is accessible 24/7/365 via desktop, mobile web or through the Care.com App (available on the App Store and Google Play). With a Care.com Premium Membership, employees can:
Post a job with a description of the care they are hiring for including daily responsibilities, date, time, location and an overview of the loved one that needs care. Caregivers from their area can apply to the job and securely message families to coordinate interviews, background checks, and more. Watch this video to see how to post a job on Care.com.
Search and filter through caregivers in their zip code radius that meet their requirements. Employees can filter by hourly rate, availability, experience, last activity on the platform, education and certifications, keywords and more. Care.com Membership Safety & Vetting
As the industry leader in online caregiving, we have implemented safety best practices and provide tools to help families to hire safely. At no cost to members, we run an annual background check on caregivers called CareCheck. Once they sign up on our platform and the CareCheck is complete, caregivers can apply to jobs and communicate with families.
A Caregiver will have the CareCheck symbol on their profile once the check is complete. CareChecks include:
- Social Security Number trace
- National Sex Offender Public Website check
- Multi-jurisdictional criminal database
- Federal and county criminal records based on 7 years of address history

LifeMart
LifeMart is a free, discount program included in your Care@Work membership. To access LifeMart, log onto your Care.com account and scroll to the bottom of the page where you'll find discounts available through LifeMart.

Is there a cost to use the Care@Work benefit?
There is no cost to find care providers on the self-service cityofmilwaukee.care.com site. Once you decide to hire a caregiver, the cost of care should be discussed with your caregiver and would be an out-of-pocket expense.
Is there a limit to the number of times I can use the Care@Work benefit?
There is no limit to the number of times you can use the self-service website.
What will occur if I have a current Care.com account outside of the City of Milwaukee?
- Visit cityofmilwaukee.care.com
- Click “Let’s get started”
- When asked if you are new to Care.com? Click “No”
- The prompts will ask you to enter in your credentials for your current account and for your City of Milwaukee Employee ID to validate as an eligible employee
