Our 5 Pillars
The Office of African American Affairs serves all residents in the City of Milwaukee and is guided by five key pillars that shape our work, programs, and community impact.
Education
We advocate for equitable education systems, increased representation, and culturally responsive learning environments. OAAA supports academic achievement and access from early childhood through higher education and beyond.
Entrepreneurship
We encourage the growth of Black-owned businesses through access to resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Our work aims to help close the racial wealth gap by promoting innovation and sustainable enterprise.
Financial Literacy
We provide tools and education to support financial independence and generational wealth, including budgeting, credit building, saving, and pathways to homeownership.
Self-Care
We prioritize mental, emotional, and physical wellness in underrepresented communities by promoting holistic health strategies, culturally responsive care, and access to wellness services.
Youth & Family
We focus on empowering families and communities by promoting stability, health, and opportunity for youth and caregivers through mentorship, identity development, and family engagement.
