Milwaukee Police Department
Upon joining the Milwaukee Police Department in 2007, Captain Theresa C. Janick was assigned to the District Seven Police Station. Her tenure at District Seven saw her working on the Captain's squad, addressing crime trends. Notably, Captain Janick was selected to work on the anti-prostitution unit, a role that saw her operating out of the Sensitive Crimes Division and collaborating with the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force. This collaboration led to her being a federally deputized task force officer on the anti-human trafficking task force.
In January 2014, Captain Janick was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to District Three. She supervised the Community Prosecution, Domestic Violence, stolen vehicle, and juvenile probation units. As a sergeant, Captain Janick worked in the Communications, Specialized Patrol Division, and Sensitive Crimes Divisions. She supervised the patrol and explosive detection canine unit and completed SWAT 101 training.
In February of 2022, Captain Janick was promoted to Lieutenant. Her experience spans across the Sensitive Crimes, General Crimes, and the Internal Affairs Divisions.
Captain Janick's professional philosophy is rooted in the power of collaboration and a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach. She has hosted blood drives, fundraisers for multiple non-profits, and a hair- cut and clothing event for those experiencing homelessness. She holds an associate's degree in criminal justice and is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree. Captain Janick completed Northwestern School of Staff and Command Class 540 in March of 2023. Captain Janick has received Leadership Award MJHTTF 2020, the Chief’s Superior Leadership Award 2018, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Milwaukee Police Association 2018.
