Milwaukee Police Department
Captain Phillip Simmert began his career with the Milwaukee Police Department in 2001 and was assigned to District 4 after graduating from the Police Academy. In 2006, he was promoted to detective and was assigned to the Violent Crimes and Sensitive Crimes Divisions.
Captain Simmert was then assigned to the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), conducting state and federal drug investigations. In 2015, Captain Simmert was designated as a Federal Task Force Officer for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), conducting firearm investigations. Captain Simmert completed his career as a detective as a Federal Task Force Officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on the Robbery Task Force.
In 2020, Captain Simmert was promoted to lieutenant and briefly assigned to District 6 before returning to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Homicide Division.
In February of 2022, Captain Simmert was promoted to captain and took over command of the Fusion Division.
Captain Simmert is a graduate of Upper Iowa University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He is currently attending Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command and is a class board member. Captain Simmert is a graduate of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations and is currently working toward a master’s degree in Criminal Justice.
Captain Simmert was born in raised in Milwaukee and proudly calls Milwaukee home. He honorably served in the United States Navy for four years.
