Permit-Based Street Closures and Traffic Restrictions

THIRD WARD ART FESTIVAL (4TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 1)
It is anticipated that the following roadways will be closed to traffic from 5:00 P.M. on Friday, September 4, 2026 to 11:59 P.M. on Sunday, September 6, 2026 for the Third Ward Art Festival; North Broadway from East St. Paul Avenue to East Menomonee Street; East Menomonee Street from North Milwaukee Street to East Erie Street; East Chicago Street from North Broadway to the alleys east and west of North Broadway; and East Buffalo Street from North Broadway to the alleys east and west of North Broadway.
LABORFEST PARADE (4TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 1)
It is anticipated that on Monday, September 7, 2026 starting at 11:00 A.M. the LaborFest Parade will be in progress and close the following streets to traffic: Staging will be on West Michigan Street from North 5th Street to North 3rd Street; N Vel R Phillips Avenue from West Michigan Street to West Wells Street; North 3rd Street from West Michigan Street to West Everett Street; West Everett Street from North Vel R Phillips Avenue to North 2nd Street. Parade will begin at North Vel R Phillips Avenue and West Wisconsin Avenue and proceed east on West Wisconsin Avenue to North Water Street; south on North Water Street to East Chicago Street; and east on East Chicago Street to the main entrance of Summerfest.

WEST KILBOURN AVENUE – NORTH 6TH STREET TO NORTH VEL R PHILLIPS AVENUE; EASTBOUND WEST WELLS STREET FROM NORTH 6TH STREET TO NORTH VEL R PHILLIPS AVENUE (4TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 1)
It is anticipated that West Kilbourn Avenue from North 6th Street to North Vel R Phillips Avenue and eastbound West Wells Street from North 6th Street to North Vel R Phillips Avenue will be closed to traffic daily from 7:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. beginning Sunday, August 23, 2026 and ending Tuesday, September 1, 2026 to facilitate the “2026 Milwaukee International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses” event.

WEST HISTORICT MITCHELL STREET – SOUTH 22ND STREET TO SOUTH LAYTON BOULEVARD (10TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 3)
It is anticipated that West Historic Mitchell Street from South 22nd Street to South Layton Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. daily during weekdays for a lead service line replacement project. This roadway will be reopened at the end of work each day and night and weekend impacts are not expected.
WEST LEON TERRACE BRIDGE OVER THE LITTLE MENOMONEE RIVER – WEST GREEN TREE ROAD TO WEST MILL ROAD (5TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 4)
It is anticipated that the West Leon Terrace bridge between West Green Tree Road and West Mill Road will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Friday, July 17, 2026 until further notice for bridge rehabilitation by WisDOT. Access to nearby residences, and the Oak Leaf Trail will be maintained. As part of this closure, the Leon Terrace entrance and exit ramps to WIS 145 will also be closed.
WEST HOWARD AVENUE – SOUTH 27TH STREET TO WEST LOOMIS ROAD (10TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 3)
It is anticipated that West Howard Avenue from South 27th Street to West Loomis Road will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the bridge over Miner Creek beginning Thursday, June 18, 2026 and extending to October 2026 (weather dependent) for bridge and culvert improvements. Signed vehicular and pedestrian detours will be in place.
27TH STREET VIADUCT OVER THE MENOMONEE RIVER (4TH, 12TH) (POLICE DISTRICTS 2, 3)
It is anticipated that the 27th Street Viaduct will be closed to traffic beginning February 2026 and continuing through late 2026 for work associated with the WisDOT 94 East-West Freeway Project.
SOUTH HAWLEY ROAD – WEST PARK HILL AVENUE TO WEST ADLER STREET (10TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 3)
It is anticipated that South Hawley Road from a point south of West Park Hill Avenue to a point north of West Adler Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Monday, January 5, 2026 through Fall of 2028 for work associated with the WisDOT 94 East-West Freeway Project.
NORTH MARSHALL STREET – EAST MASON STREET TO EAST WELLS STREET (4TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 1)
It is anticipated that two-way vehicular traffic on North Marshall Street from East Mason Street to East Wells Street will be shifted to the east side of the road beginning Monday, October 23, 2023 through Summer of 2025 to facilitate construction operations for the Northwestern Mutual Building Expansion.
WEST GREVES STREET – 27TH STREET VIADUCT WEST TO ITS TERMINUS (8TH) (POLICE DISTRICT 3)
It is anticipated that West Greves Street from the 27th Street Viaduct west to its terminus will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Monday, December 8, 2025 through Fall of 2026 for work associated with the WisDOT 94 East-West Freeway Project.
