The Community Development Grants Administration (CDGA) is responsible for applying for, recommending the allocation of, and overseeing the effective use of Local, State and Federal funds for programs serving targeted City of Milwaukee neighborhoods. 

Among the funding administered by CDGA is an annual allocations from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the following programs:

  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): funding to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

  • HOME Investment Partnership Program: funding for local housing strategies designed to increase affordable housing opportunities for low- and very low-income families

  • Housing Opportunities for People with Aids (HOPWA): funding for housing assistance and related supportive services to meet the housing needs of low-income persons and their families living with HIV/AIDS

  • Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG): funding to support essential services related to emergency shelter and street outreach, operation of emergency shelters, short-term and medium-term rental assistance, and housing relocation and stabilization services

CDGA collaborates with local non-profit groups, government agencies, and public/private organizations to ensure funding is utilized to principally benefits low/moderate income persons, prevents or eliminates slum or blight, and to addresses an urgent need or problem in the community.
