Turn off water to house or other building

Locate the water meter. It is usually in the basement. Turn the shutoff valve on either side of the meter to turn off the water. Be careful not to break the valve if it is stuck.

If you are unable to turn the valve and shut off the water, call the Milwaukee Water Works Customer Service Center, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m., (414) 286-2830, or the 24-hour Control Center, (414) 286-3710. We will arrange to shut off the water at the water main in the street.
