Statement from Mayor Cavalier Johnson on the arrest of Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan
"I am awaiting more detail on the facts of the case, so I am not commenting on what the Judge did – or didn’t do.
I will say, I wish the Trump administration would focus less on settling scores with their perceived political enemies and focus their attention on fixing the economy that they’ve broken or remedying the mistakes they have made as they slashed through important federal programs.
This overly dramatic arrest of a judge at the county courthouse adds to a big problem created by the federal approach to immigration enforcement. What they have done is drive away people from participating in legitimate courthouse activities. These may be victims or witnesses, and they are not going to take part in court cases if they fear being swept up in immigration enforcement.
Our community is safer when witnesses and victims willingly appear for court."
