Metcalfe Park NID 13

Metcalfe Park Photos

NID #13 boundaries are within the Metcalfe Park Neighborhood on the northside of Milwaukee. Metcalfe Park is more than a neighborhood name. It carries the legacy of Ralph Harold Metcalfe Sr., an Olympic champion, Marquette University graduate, and civil rights advocate whose life embodied perseverance, public service, and the pursuit of opportunity. In 1990, during Mayor John Norquist’s administration, Milwaukee formally named and defined the Metcalfe Park neighborhood to establish a stronger neighborhood identity and focus attention on community revitalization. Today, that legacy lives on through residents working to stabilize the neighborhood, restore vacant properties, strengthen community connections, and build a future shaped by the people who call Metcalfe Park home.

Ralph Metcalfe’s legacy offers a meaningful lens through which to understand the neighborhood’s ongoing work. His life connected personal achievement with collective progress, civic leadership, public accountability, and the pursuit of greater opportunity. These principles continue to resonate in the efforts of residents organizing to preserve housing, reclaim community spaces, expand access to resources, and shape the future of their neighborhood.

Honoring Ralph Metcalfe means more than carrying his name. It means carrying forward a commitment to perseverance, civic leadership, opportunity, and collective progress.

The Metcalfe Park Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) #13 envisions a strong and unified community where neighbors look out for one another, vacant properties are restored and reactivated, and resources are reinvested into the neighborhood. We strive for a thriving Metcalfe Park where families can remain rooted for generations, residents share responsibility for their community’s well-being, and collective action creates a vibrant, stable, healthy, and welcoming place to live and work.

The NID boundaries mirror the neighborhood boundaries and are West North Avenue to the south, West Center Street to the north, North 27th Street to the east, and North 38th Street to the west.
