Common Council Proceedings Now Available on the Web

The general public can now view Milwaukee Common Council proceedings anytime and anywhere. Telecasts of meetings that are being shown on the city's cable television channel (City Channel 25) are now streamed live over the Internet. Meetings are also archived online, so that citizens can view a prior Council proceeding any time of the day and anywhere that Internet service is available.

This gives everyone with web access the chance to participate in the legislative process of the city no matter where they are or when they need the information.

A citizen canlook up a legislative file, read the attached documents and then view how the council committee and the entire Common Council acted on the item.

Currently available in the archive are all meetings from April 2004 through December 2008. Beginning in January, 2009, the archives of city meetings became a part of our legislative reference system, and past video of meetings is available through the Legislative Reference Center only. All an individual needs to view a meeting is an Internet connection and player software, which can be downloaded free of charge. Meetings can be viewed from either a dial-up connection or a high-speed line. And for those individuals who don't have Internet access, it is available at all thirteen City of Milwaukee libraries free of charge.

Other City Channel 25 programs, such as Insight Milwaukee are also available for web streaming. For a complete list, just just visit www.milwaukee.gov/channel25.
