This project will restore a vacant lot in the 30th Street Industrial Corridor to productive use for residents of Milwaukee’s Century City Triangle Neighborhood by expanding an adjacent park, mitigating minor environmental contamination, and incorporating stormwater management best practices. A community-engaged conceptual planning process has identified a significant interest in improved recreational facilities, minimizing impervious surfaces, restoring wildlife and pollinator habitat, community gardening, protecting local waterways from contaminated stormwater runoff, and providing opportunities for community gatherings, educational experiences, and nature-based play. This project was initiated and is supported by Alderman Khalif Rainey of the 7th District.
March 2024 In an effort to reduce basement backups and sewer overflows to Lincoln Creek, MMSD is beginning construction of the NS-12 Collector System Improvements Project. The project will significantly impact traffic patterns during the duration of construction (March 2024-June 2025). There will be staged road closures of North 31st and West Hopkins Streets. The construction site map and detour maps are linked here. Note that traffic on West Capitol Drive will not be affected by construction, but drivers should be aware of turn lane restrictions when North 31st Street and West Hopkins Streets are closed to through traffic. Signage will be posted to notify drivers of changed traffic patterns and traffic signals will be modified when necessary. If you have questions about the project or the timeline, please visit the project webpage.
