Previously known as the historic Commerce Building, the building at 744 N. 4th Street was built in 1928 and functioned as office space until December 2014. After undergoing an adaptive reuse renovation, which utilized PACE financing, the building re-opened as the Springhill Suites in July 2016.
The Marriott-brand hotel is managed by White Lodging and offers 155 spacious rooms and suites perfectly suited for families and traveling professionals. The modern interior and amenities of the building provide guests with a fitness center, BBQ restaurant and bar, and a skywalk linking directly to the Wisconsin Center across the street. Simultaneously, Springhill Suites preserves the building’s interesting history not only in its framework, but also by creatively naming a signature cocktail in the hotel bar ‘adlib’ after a former mobster hangout that was previously located in the building.
Although guests are generally interested in sustainability and wellness, energy efficiency is a wise investment regardless of who knows about it. It is something we are interested in that just makes sense for our business. Doug Nysse, Principal, Arrival Partners, LLC
After a long life as office space, the building at 744 N. 4th Street became mostly vacant in December 2014, began renovations in January 2015, and re-opened as the Springhill Suites in July 2016. Hotel management has set up an ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® account to track the building's energy use moving forward. Due to the renovations and recent reopening, information on energy performance will be included here once a full calendar year of data is available.
