Bulky Waste & Debris

Effective January 7, 2013, a new price schedule for bulky waste pick-up by City crews takes effect:

  • There is no charge for pick-up of up to one (1) cubic yard of bulky waste.  This is about the size of an easy chair. Place your materials out at your collection point for pickup on your designated collection day.
  • There is a $50 fee to pick up bulky waste in excess of one (1) cubic yard up four (4) cubic yards.
  • There is a $150 fee for bulky waste in excess of four (4) cubic yards up to six (6) cubic yards.
  • Call 286-CITY (2489) to request pickup of bulky waste larger than one cubic yard.

Crews will collect up to two (2) cubic yards of brush from April 1 – November 30. To schedule a brush pickup, call 286-CITY (2489). Disposal of TVs & Electronics Many consumer electronics are banned from Wisconsin landfills. The City of Milwaukee will not pick up, and no one may deposit in the trash, any of the banned items. City of Milwaukee residents may recycle electronics for FREE at the City's Self-Help Centers.  Visit the Electronics Page to learn more about which items are banned from landfills, and for more information on the City's Self-Help Centers.  You may also call 414.286.CITY (2489). Disposal of Furniture and/or Extra Items We've simplified bulky collection so you can now place items (not larger than the size of an easy chair) at your collection point on your scheduled collection day. Your regular collection crew is instructed to take your extra items. Bulky waste that is placed at the wrong location (at the curb when there is alley collection) or waste that is not contained will result in referral to the Department of Neighborhood Services. This may result in cleanup orders issued and fines levied against the property. For bulky waste that exceeds the size of an easy chair or if extra items are not removed on your collection day, call (414) 286-CITY (2489) to arrange for pickup. Bulky waste can also be taken to a City self-help center. Disposal of Brush The City does not collect brush piles exceeding two (2) cubic yards. There is no brush collection from December through March. To request collection of smaller brush piles from April through November, you must call (414) 286-CITY (2489). Brush is collected separate from garbage and composted. Composting not only saves the City money, it is environmentally responsible. Brush can also be taken to a City self-help center. Disposal of Tires City of Milwaukee residents may dispose of up to five (5) tires at a City Self-Help Center. Tires will not be picked up by your regular collection crew. If you find a pile of discarded tires, please call the City of Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services for pickup (414) 286-2268 Disposal of Appliances The City of Milwaukee does not pick up appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, hot water heaters. For disposal of these items, please use exchange programs from retail outlets, bring them to one of the City's Self-Help Centers, or check the Yellow Pages for a list of appliance collectors.

Focus on Energy offers free refrigerator and freezer recycling to help you save money and energy.   You can receive $30 cash back for each refrigerator or freezer (limit 2 per customer).   Call 855-398-5226 or visit www.focusonenergy.com/appliance for more information.
