Milwaukee Firefighters Honor Guard Inc
Established January 1, 1996, the Milwaukee Fire Department Honor Guard set out to Honor and remember those Firefighters who had died in the Line of Duty. As time went on, the Honor Guard began standing guard at retiree and active duty funerals as well. The MFD Honor Guard soon expanded the scope of their duties, marching in parades, posting Colors at numerous types of events, and presenting the Colors at Brewers, Bucks, and Admirals games.
In 2001 the MFD Honor Guard represented the Milwaukee Fire Department members at countless funerals for members of FDNY after 9/11/01. The Honor Guard stood tall at the one-year Memorial in New York City, carrying American Flags, one for each member of the FDNY that died that horrible day in September.
In 2005, the Honor Guard obtained its non-profit status, becoming the Milwaukee Firefighters Honor Guard, Inc. Soon after, the MFHG would begin hosting a yearly Clinic to teach other Firefighters and Police Officers the basic essentials of functioning as an Honor Guard. Numerous disciplines are taught: posting of the Colors, posting Guards at a casket, pall bearer duties and flag folding among many others. One philosophy is encouraged above all others, “Take care of the families of the fallen.”
The Milwaukee Firefighters Honor Guard has also been called upon to help other Departments prepare for, organize, and implement LODD Funerals for their fallen members. It has been with great Honor that we have been afforded the opportunity to help other Honor Guards in such a horrible time of need.
The Honor Guard participates in such Memorials as the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial in Wisconsin Rapids, the IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, CO, and our own MFD Fallen Firefighter Memorial at the Quarters of Engine 2 in downtown Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Firefighters Honor Guard takes great pride in representing the men and women of the Milwaukee Fire Department and the members of the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Local 215. We diligently stand by our motto:
“Honoring those who have gone before, by standing tall with those still beside us”
Motto authored by MFHG member B.C. Aaron Lipski
