MPD should improve communication and support accolades that champion positive employee behaviors.
Since 2009, Chief Flynn has awarded 1,379 heroism and police service awards. Since 2011, Chief Flynn has also written over 3,000 commendatory letters to members. Chief Flynn personally serves these awards to members at the Training Academy Merit Awards Ceremony. Elected Officials and dignified master of ceremony speakers attend and each event is publicized through media channels, Roll Call, Facebook and MPD’s internal SharePoint Site. In 2012, a SharePoint site to record good work by members was created and 1,160 Good Work commendations have been posted. The MPD Public Information Office monitors the site and posts good work to various social media sites. Recommendations are also made to member’s direct supervisors suggesting submissions for award receipt.
