FPC and MPD do not have a mechanism for external input from the community regarding the recruitment and hiring of MPD officers.
FPC should include on community members at-large to serve on the police applicant oral interview board.
The FPC is in the planning stages to utilize a similar, pilot process for the firefighter position in the Milwaukee Fire Department.
A future goal for the FPC is to have a pool of community members to serve during the oral interview board for Police Officer and Police Aide, and the FPC anticipates that this will be in place by the next recruitment for Police Officer. The method for selecting these community members still needs to be developed.
