MILWAUKEE – This week’s burden rate is at the lowest value on record since the pandemic began. At 9.8 per 100,000 people, this is the first time this metric has dropped into the “low transmission” category. The percent test positivity continues to decrease and remains in the “low transmission” category with 1.0% of tests being positive.
“This is an accomplishment worth celebrating,” said Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson. “Our efforts to crush COVID-19 and vaccinate Milwaukeeans continue, but this is a huge milestone for the City of Milwaukee. Our residents should be proud of the work they did to get us to this point.”
The growth of vaccination rates continues to climb. Currently, 46.4% of Milwaukee adults are fully vaccinated, and 52.1% have received at least their first dose. To increase vaccine confidence, the Milwaukee Health Department is looking to community members to step up as ambassadors who can educate and reassure their personal networks.
The Crush COVID Crew is for individuals who are passionate about sharing reputable educational sources and information to their communities regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and combatting the spread of misinformation.
On Tuesday, June 29, the Crush COVID Crew will host two 1.5-hour-long virtual information sessions via Zoom at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The virtual information sessions will provide information, tools, and resources from Milwaukee Health Department staff and other medical experts so ambassadors can feel confident speaking to their personal networks about the COVID-19 vaccine. More information and registration links can be found at Milwaukee.gov/CrushCOVIDtoolkit.
Additionally, vaccination efforts continue with mobile clinics throughout the city. On Saturday, vaccines will be available at the Safe Summer Kick-Off event on 106th and Jonen Streets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both Saturday and Sunday, MHD will be vaccinating at The Oasis, 3120 W. Villard Avenue, from 2 until 6 p.m. for the Homer Blow Foundation’s 26th Annual Birthday Party for the Kids event.
On Sunday, the drive-thru vaccination clinic at Summerfest is back from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. outside the south gates of the festival grounds. Summerfest will be generously raffling off a prize package which includes a 9-day Power Pass, good for admission every day of the festival, and a festival merchandise package. Everyone who receives a vaccine at Summerfest on Sunday will be entered, and the winner will be chosen on Monday, June 28.
The list of all mobile vaccination clinics for the upcoming week are attached and can be found at Milwaukee.gov/COVIDvax. Looking forward, vaccination clinics will be closed Friday, July 2 through Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day weekend.
