Milwaukee Police Department
Captain Jesus Ortiz joined the Milwaukee Police Department in May of 1997. As an officer, he was assigned to Districts 4 and 3. Captain Ortiz was a Field Training Officer and trained many new officers that graduated from the police academy. One of Captain Ortiz’s proud accomplishments, is seeing the officers he trained promoting and leading throughout the department. In April 2008, he was promoted to Police Sergeant and worked at Districts 6, 5, 3, and 2, as well as Central Booking. Captain Ortiz was promoted to Police Lieutenant in July 2016, where he was assigned to District 6, 2, Violent Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and then District 5. While at District 5, he coordinated and planned MPD’s operational plan for the Juneteenth Day Festival and worked closely with community groups to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.
In May of 2021, Captain Ortiz was promoted to Captain and assigned as the Patrol Bureau Night Watch Commander.
In September of 2021, Captain Ortiz was assigned as the commander of District Four.
Captain Ortiz was born and raised in Milwaukee. He grew up in the Riverwest area and graduated from Riverside University High School. Captain Ortiz proudly served in the U.S. Army reserves for 9 years.
