Overnight Parking Permits

Who must obtain a permit?

All motor vehicles apply with the following exceptions:

  • Vehicles used for commercial purposes, or any vehicle which is larger than 21 feet in length, 7 feet in width, and 7 feet in height and which have more than 2 single-tired wheels on the front axle and more than 2 single-tired or double-tired wheels on the rear axle, are not eligible for night parking permits
  • Motor trucks, except as provided elsewhere in the code, luxury limousines, motor buses, motor delivery wagons, trailers, semitrailers, camping trailers, motor homes, mobile homes and tractors are not eligible for night parking permits
  • Vehicles bearing "Disabled Driver" license plates are exempt from purchasing night parking permits. Those vehicles displaying a "Disabled Driver" hang-tag must still display a special disabled night permit that is free to owners of the valid disabled hang tag
  • Night parking permits can be used for City-owned parking lots requiring permits at any time of day - vehicles may not be parked more than 24 hours
Overnight Parking Permit Applications require the following information:
  1. Full Name
  2. City of Milwaukee address of the permit applicant
Disabled Drivers:

Vehicles bearing current registration plates for disabled drivers issued under s.341.12(1), (1a), (1m), or (1q), Wis. Stats., or a motor vehicle under which a current special identification card issued under s.343.51, Wis. Stats., is displayed, excepting motor buses and motor trucks, shall be exempt from purchasing overnight parking permits, but shall be required to park in accordance with all other provisions contained herein. Those vehicles displaying a 'Disabled Driver' hang-tag must display a special disabled night permit, but it is free of charge and is available ONLY at police district stations.

Cost of Overnight Parking Permit

Permit fees for overnight parking are as follows:

  1. ​$55.00/year or $20.00/4-month period Special Disabled Overnight Parking Permits are free of charge to those who possess a valid disabled hang-tag
  2. 4-month periods: January-April; May-August; September-December
  3. Permits may be purchased at any time within the trimester (4-month period), beginning on the 20th day of the month preceding the start of the 4-month period
  4. Annual permits may be purchased beginning on the 20th day of the month preceding the beginning of the year and can be purchased at any time of the year prorated by the 4-month period in which the permit is purchase
Where to Purchase:

Overnight parking permits can be purchased at the following locations:

  1. Purchase an overnight parking permit online with Mastercard or Visa debit or credit cards - a $1.00 convenience fee will be assessed.  Keep your confirmation number - you may park for a maximum of 7 days from purchase date.  Permits are verified through license plate reader technology.  Make sure you enter the correct licence plate number.
  2. The Police District Station where the vehicle will be parked.  Call (414) 933-4444 and ask for the location of your district station or click on district station locations
  3. Overnight parking permits can be purchased at the Automated Payment Centers located at Police District Stations #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7
  4. Special Disabled Night Parking Permits can ONLY be obtained in person at local district police stations
  5. Overnight parking permits can also be purchased at the following locations:

How to Pay

Payment for overnight parking permits is accepted as follows:

  1. Cash is accepted at all Milwaukee Police District Stations
  2. Automated Payment Centers accept cash or credit and are located in Police Districts #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7
  3. Cash and credit card payments are accepted at the City Tow Lot
  4. Cash or credit card payments are accepted at the Violations Bureau locations
