February 27, 2019

MILWAUKEE— Today, February 27, 2019 Mayor Tom Barrett expressed his support for in-state tuition for undocumented individuals who graduate from a Wisconsin high school. He urged Governor Tony Evers and state officials to propose and pass legislation regarding this matter.

“Young people who stay the course and graduate from high school should be afforded the opportunity to attend a Wisconsin university and receive in-state tuition,” said Mayor Tom Barrett. “We need to make sure our most talented young adults receive a better education and that we have a competent and reliable future workforce for the City of Milwaukee and our state.”

Mayor Barrett made the call to state officials during a press conference hosted by Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee (HPGM) announcing MATC’s plans to seek designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution and the creation of the first two-year college scholarship opportunity.
