Mayor Barrett Calls for Marriage Equality

 February 14, 2014

Continuing his commitment to treating all families and community members equally, Mayor Tom Barrett proclaimed Friday, February 14, 2014, Marriage Equality Day.

"Milwaukee's greatest strength is its diversity. Differing cultures, ethnicity, and sexual orientation bring creativity, energy, and interest to our city," Mayor Barrett said. "As a community we have an interest in strong families. And, families include loving and committed couples, irrespective of their sexual orientation."

"It's time the federal and state governments that remain obstacles from loving couples being treated equally get out of the way," Mayor Barrett continued "I want same-sex couples to get married in Milwaukee, not go to Minneapolis or Iowa. I want them to be here with their families, friends, and loved ones to share that experience with them," Mayor Barrett said.
